Power Under Control

Acrylic paint on 18×24 canvas panel

From my childhood until now, I’ve always thought horses were beautiful and powerful beings, running free, uninhibited. Only after rigorous, repetition in non-abusive training, the animal is tamed, not broken. Its beauty, power and will remain. My painting, even with an abstract background of vibrant hues, shows the animal’s beauty resounding power in the movement of its flowing mane and muscular structure.

“Power Under Control” is the definition for meekness as referring to Christianity, epitomizing the way of Christ, who is all powerful, all knowing and omnipresent, meaning existing everywhere. Yet, He exhibits self-control. As our former First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high.” It takes self-control to do this. Unlike animals who are trained to be obedient or disobedient, human beings are given the power to choose between hate and love, right or wrong. When someone expresses hate or spreads lies, it’s a choice. To return hate for hate, we accomplish hate. Only with restraint can we stand tall, smile and show kindness in the face of it. Hate, then has no ammunition to retaliate. Self-control will always win.
