“Introduction to “The Art of Saving One”
Knowing my purpose in life is why I do this. “The Art of Saving One” is taken from my novel, “Spirit Keeper: Identity.” I created the title “The Art of Saving One” for Abby’s art appreciation class because, like my story’s heroine, I too, wish to bring attention to and help stop bullying one child or person at a time. It also honors a quiet stranger, who, for one second, steps out of his painful existence to save Abby from being brutally abused after school, to becomes her guardian angel. Being a child art prodigy, Abby uses her art appreciation class as a sanctuary for students being bullied and to teach others how to recognize the signs and offer help to the victim.
As Stated, I was bullied as a child and again as a freshman in college. Knowing how that feels, I became more passionate to advocate against bullying by including it in my stories and adding meaning to my artwork to reach those who are suffering. Low self-esteem, anger, fear and pain are the results of bullying, even becoming a bullying as well. With my art, I wish to encourage everyone, bullied or not bullied, to become victorious, and empowered, rather than a victim.
While I was being physically and mentally bullied as a child, I used my art to express my feelings and it helped empower me to survive. While in college, I used my faith and the bully became my friend. It didn’t hurt having my faith that gave me hope and friends. I hope my art will uplift the spirit and inspire all to do great things.
